A sad weekend for music with the passing of Max Bygraves and Hal David.

Sad news indeed.

I never knew that Max Bygraves bought the rights to the musical Oliver from Lionel Bart for £350. That proved to be a shrewd business move.

And Hal's songwriting partnership with Burt Bacharach is in the legends of song writing teams. Up there with Lennon & McCartney and Goffin & King.

There was a nice article on TV news tonight about Hal. And his songs go way back further than the 60s and 70s. There he is on label of u59_057a 'Broken Hearted Melody'. You won't hear anything as good as that on American Idol!

A quick spreadsheet composer search show his first collaborations (with Leon Carr) in 1954 with 'Bell Bottom Blues'. And a quick count totals 82 A-Sides 1954-1997. (There's probably more, we won't know for sure until Person IDs kick in).

And Max... no more rides on the 'Mule Train'. And IMHO one of the best British Pop hits of all time was u60_057a. A total of 23 A-sides - and 10 of those in the Top 10.

Why did Max went to Aussie, he could of a t least, like Ronnie Ronalde. moved to NZ ! :D

Thanks for all the music..... both be much missed.
