Today saw the sad news of the passing of bass player Donald "Duck" Dunn at the age of 70.
An absolute legend, he was the bass player with Booker T & the MGs and played on many Atlantic and Stax sessions in the 1960's. His credits include Wilson Picket - In The Midnight Hour, Otis Redding - Respect & (Sittin' On The) Dock Of The Bay.
He joined the MG's in 1965 and played on legendary recording's - Time Is Tight and Soul Limbo. Time Is Tight is actually in the scheduled 1973 post as a bubbler.
In the 1970's he played on many sessions for artists such as Rod Stewart and Bob Dylan and in the 1980's, along with his long time friend and collaborator Steve Cropper, featured in The Blues Brothers Band and was the bass player in both of the Blues Brothers films.
Active until the end of his life, he died in his sleep in Japan while on tour.
RIP "Duck" and thanks for all those magnificent recordings.
