Hehe, I thought you'd have worked it out, part of this flurry of activity has been caused by my television finally going pop about 4 weeks ago. Luckily (sort of, not that I couldn't have spent it on a holiday or something) I get paid 13 times a year and this was my bill free month, so today I treated myself to a new 1080 HD widescreen 32" jobbie. I think that's the first brand new TV I've bought in about 20 years!

The good news is, once I get it home, it fits in the corner where it should, whereas the last one has been precariously hanging over the edge resting in part on various boxes, books and magazines for the last three or four years. The bad news is I have to try and get rid of the old one. One of the few downfalls to not having a car!

1981 my favourite year.

Spotted an error "u81_170a - Ultravox - Mind Of A Toy", should be "u81_170a - Visage - Mind Of A Toy". The tag info is correct but the file name needs changing.

Now I can understand how I might have made that mistake in a moment of madness, had I named the files manually, but I ran them all through several scripts to check the names and tags before archiving them. Good spot though, and thanks for pointing it out!

And yes, the early 80s are probably my favourite era too, very interesting musically, with the hangover from the mid-seventies disco and late-seventies punk / post-punk and the emergence of New Wave, the Two Tone explosion and plenty of quality pop ...

Spotted something else "u81_026a - Ennio Morricone - Chi Mai (Theme From The TV Series The Life And Times Of David Lloyd George)", doesn't sound like the original to me.

The only version of the original I can find is just over 5mins is length. Does anyone have the original 7" to confirm the time.

u81_026a was provided by me and has been verified against the 45rpm single.

The time should be 3mins 27secs.

Cheers

The time might be right, but the version I remember listening to was http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kb_LWgqihnc, the drums are louder and there's no pan pipes.

Without question the wrong version, and probably not even Ennio (it's a version from an album entitled "The Soho Strings Play"). It is indeed the "softer" version that's on the single.

I've dug out my original BBC RESL vinyl and managed a half decent rip first time, but I'll give it a bit of love and attention tomorrow and see if I can come up with a better copy.

The posting of track 81_309 - Duran Duran - Careless Memories is the wrong song. It is in fact the track "To The Shore".

The problem here seems to be that there appear to be different versions of the Duran Duran debut (self-titled) album. One version has "Careless Memories" as track 4, the other has "To The Shore" as track 4, with "Careless Memories" as track 5.

I have a copy of the correct song (at 192 kbps), which I can post if required.

I've uploaded an upgrade for this. It's actually the 5:06 CD version, edited to 3:28. There's just a bit in the middle of the the full version that's not on the 7". See want you think...
The piano on the right channel at the beginning is a bit quieter, if you want I could do a bit more tweaking, 'til it matches the 7".

If you'd rather have the vinyl copy, I understand.

Hi Boro,

I'd rather have a CD rip of the single version, but they seem rather thin on the ground :o)

I did post a pretty decent vinyl rip to the newsgroup earlier in the week though.

Thanks for pointing it out, I've posted a 320k rip from the singles boxset.
