1980s Missing Information

Postby ukcharts » Fri Jan 16, 2009 3:55 am

The proliferation of formats (particularly the 12" single) and dance labels has made tracking down some 7" single information for the 80s quite difficult (and likely to get harder as we go further forward).

1980 to 1983 is pretty much as complete as I'm going to get it without a bit of luck, some more vinyl, or outside help. That's where you come in.

Whilst I move on to 1984 (and thus halfway through the 80s), the following info is missing from the 1980-1983 databases. Any help appreciated, particularly label scans, lossless or mp3 rips, etc.

Here's 1980 - I'll post up the rest over the next few days.

Found items are highlighted olive colour.

Hi Bert,

The only one that I can help with is 80_408 The Dooleys - Whispers + Sign Of The Times.
The producer of both the A and B sides was Ben Findon.

Do you need any music or label scans for 1980, I have access to about 60 of the original 45's for ripping and photographing.

Cheers
Glinty

Have got about 20 of the original 45s from this list. Do you want just the info or do you want label scans as well?

If scans are required can you tell me where to post them/send them to.

Thanks Glinty,

Give me a couple of days and I'll make available a revised 1980 spreadsheet with a note of what vinyl (somewhere over 200 from 1980) and what rips from other sources I already have here.

Thanks swinburneivan,

As per my post to Glinty, give me a couple of days for a revised 1980 spreadsheet before ripping or scanning anything, there's no point us all duplicating what I may already have.

Anything that's on the list requires the info. Safe to say if I'm missing the timing then I haven't got the vinyl, fairly safe to say the same if the author is missing, but at least several of the missing producers I have the 7" sitting here but there's no mention of who produced it!

If you have a quick check of your 20 and can fill any gaps it'd be a help.

Thanks,

Bert

Blimey, sorting this lot out might take a bit longer than expected! I've managed 1-100 so far.

Missing A side
Odyssey - If You're Lookin' For A Way Out (Edit)

Missing B sides
Matchbox - You've Made A Fool Of Me
Rainbow - Weiss Heim
Odyssey - Never Had It At All
The Brothers Johnson - Let's Swing
The Police - No Time This Time

I've uploaded an excel ss of what I've already got at http://www.britburn.co.uk/britburn80s.zip - a Y in the second column means I have the vinyl. Anything else is fair game for improvement - and I haven't scanned anything yet.

I'll crack on with the rest and let you know how I'm getting on.

Hi Bert,

I note that you haven't started scanning yet but I've already done what I have for 1980-1982 so I will post them now as it may save you some time and effort. I'll zip them up and post them in "alt.binaries.sounds.1980s.mp3". You can assume that I have access to the vinyl 45rpm for any which are included in these post, but I can't guarantee the condition of them as many were sourced from car boot sales and second hand shops.

Cheers
Glinty
