Eddie Fisher

Postby platterman69 » Fri May 21, 2010 7:46 pm

Hi Kirk
This time my query is U55-037B - Eddie Fisher's 'A Man Chases A Girl'.
Although not credited I think you will find that he is singing with his then wife - Debbie Reynolds.
Perhaps it could be checked out
Thanks Ron

Hi Ron,

The short answer is yes, although we don't have a copy of the b-side label yet to confirm if it's credited or not, and I suspect only a session sheet or confirmation from someone that was there would be conclusive if not. Certainly in the USA the RCA single makes no mention of her, which is rather surprising I think, given the Eddie / Debbie mania that year.

However, there are several clues that indicate it was Debbie singing;
The track is listed on Debbie's website as a duet with Eddie
She was known to have performed the part on the Ed Sullivan show (although the video has been removed from youtube and Debbie wasn't actually visible).
The Very Best Of Eddie Fisher credits Debbie as well as the Hugo Winterhalter and his orchestra (and correctly credits Sally Sweetland on "I'm Walking Behind You".

So we can safely say there was *a* contempory version with Eddie and Debbie, we just need some sort of proof that it was the version used on the single!

Bert, there certainly is a B-Side label, in fact 2 of them. One (unfortunately) is the silver and purple HMV 7M series which you can' hardly read. It's probably a copy of the 78 though which says it's from the film 'No Business like Show Business' . And no indication of anyone else, other than Hugo Montenegro.
However, from the label and matrix number F2PB-1006 there's a match with the data in Taragon/BMG 'Very Best of' CD which does say 'featuring Debbie Reynolds' :D

So will amend the data in the spreadsheet to include her.

Cheers - Kirk

Yes, there is Bert. I'll do a scan and leave it in the usual place.

Now why can't all inserts be like that? Half of the CD Singles I have don't even mention the authors!

Many thanks Bert & Kirk for sorting that out.
