New Checksums

Postby kirkm » Wed Jan 02, 2013 4:02 am

Hi,

A new batch of 1952-1982 and 1989 + 1952-75 Side mp3 checksums and full label checksums have been generated.

http://www.britburn.co.uk/files/tools/bbChecksum020.zip

Only mp3's until 1975 (and possibly 1980-82) can be considered final and complete, the others are still being collected or upgraded. 1989 was not posted by us and there's a number of alternate tracks which are likely to be upgraded later. 1989_500+ have been renumbered after one incorrect entry was removed.

Requests for any fills are welcome.... just add a req on the forum. 1975 A/B & Bubblers are posting very soon.
Cheers - Kirk

Would it be a good idea to keep a locked topic listing what's posted, and when?

Hi Kirk,

First of all I want to you wish you a very happy 2013!

After you put up the new checksum-file I ran a check on all the files I have from 1952 to 1974. I would like to share the results with you and kindly ask for a (re)post of my missing files.

Next to these am I correct to assume that the bubblers (69_259 onwards haven't been posted yet)?

1972
72_209a FAIL (Length of Audio Error) ID3v1 Fails ID3v2 Fails

Some other findings (for purists ) about the checksums:

This b-side probably shouldn't be in u66aChecksum.bb
u66_163ba - Andy Williams - Bye Bye Blues.mp3

This placeholder missing in u62aChecksum.bb
uEP62_011 - Valerie Mountain & The Eagles - Some People [u62_279].nfo

In u65bChecksum.bb if mp3 file exists, then placeholder is redundant
65_428b OK Placeholder
65_462b OK Placeholder
65_474b OK Placeholder
65_478b OK Placeholder

Keep up the great work!

All the best,
Ronnie

Hi Ronnie,

Seasons greetings back to you! Nice going with the checksum overview and will certainly post those you need. Check a.b.sounds.1960s.mp3 in 24 hours or so.

1966-67 bubblers are still incomplete and being collected. You may prefer to remove these from the checksum - you probably know it can be edited/saved just like a text file. 1965 has been posted and the 4 missing ones are now down to 2, and one of those is pending.

66_257bxx & bvbr shouldn't be there. Likewise 66_163ba doesn't belong. You're also correct on missing-additional placeholders ! An updated checksum021 is forthcoming and will include any/all late changes and tidy ups. Let's know if you find any similar discrepancies ?
1969 Bubblers haven't been posted as a set so they're going up today. 20 entries, 40 tracks.

Cheers - Kirk

Hi Kirk,

Thank you very much for the fills and the 1969 Bubblers! I just grabbed the files and I'm gonna run the checksums again over the next couple of days.

I will keep you informed should I find discrepances in the bb-files!

Cheers - Ronnie

Hi Kirk,

I just finished checking the latest checksum files (#23) on the fills and updates that you kindly posted over the last week or so. For the period 1952-1975 I now have just five files missing:

65_428b MISSING mp3 file
65_462b MISSING mp3 file
65_474b MISSING mp3 file
65_478b MISSING mp3 file
66_190b FAIL (Length of Audio Error) ID3v1 Fails ID3v2 Fails

I also have some (minor) suggestions on the naming of the files (again, just for purists ):

File should be excluded from checksum:
u59_623a - Tommy Dee & Carol Kay - Three Stars.mp3

File should be renamed:
u72_022b - Gary Glitter - Rock And Roll Part 2 [u72_021a].nfo should read u72_022b - Gary Glitter - Rock And Roll Part 1 [u72_021a].nfo

For "explicit" stereo and mono versions inconsistent naming is used:
Filename starts with uYY_ppp preceded by:
sa - track.mp3 for u58_101
s - track.mp3 for u59_157
bs - track.mp3 for u61_186, u62_103, u63_133, u69_132
a - [Stereo] for u57_147, u58_188
a - (Stereo) for u61_106, u61_295, u66_078
a - [stereo] for u67_052
a - (stereo) for u65_064, u66_192
a (mono) for u60_018, u60_063, u60_141
a (Mono) for u60_096
a - (mono) for u62_275, u63_125, u63_184, u65_353, u67_019, u68_287
a - [mono] for u70_041, u70_090
b - (mono) for u68_230, u69_319,
b - [mono] for u65_405, u68_266, u69_044, u69_121, u69_126

Cheers,
Ronnie

Re: New Checksums

Hiya Ronnie,
Look for your missing ones soon. As for the filename structure, I can see you've done some indepth analysis :D
And I quite agree the differences are not ideal or consistent. They've evolved over many years - ones with a suffix of s, sa etc. stem from before B-Sides were introduced. Square brackets usually indicated a temporary file to later confirm or upgrade. Or were added prior to selecting the 'right' version, stereo or mono. The default mode was (should be) the prominent format of the day, hence the 'other' mode is bracketed depending on the year. This was never intended to apply to all. Those that exist are almost random, or where both versions were, for whatever reason, relevant. But always the same session and never a re-recording years later.

Then, after checksums came along changing a filename would flag it as Additional or Missing for everyone else and that didn't seem a good idea!

Plenty of excuses, eh ? :) But onto specifics - u59_623a is a rogue entry. It's now destined to become uSM59_123b and should have been moved into a holding folder before the checksum was generated.
Well done on finding the wrong title in the u72_022b placeholder.

Seeing you've itemised the inconsistent naming, I suggest we standardise them all to normal brackets and apply format Prefix - (mode) Artist - Title.mp3.. With mode being either 'stereo', 'mono' or 'alt'. Square brackets may also exist where special notes are needed in the name. For the (macro) spreadsheet everything after the first " - " delimiter is ignored, but the prefix and subletter/number is critical.

Of course, this is open to any other ideas or suggestions. Checksum users may find a few Additional/Missing flags after any changes are applied.

Thanks Ronnie!

Cheers - Kirk

Hi Kirk,

I noticed you put up new checksum files (#24), but I didn't find the 5 missing files via Binsearch.

Did I overlook them or did you not post them?

Keep up the good work!
RonnieV

p.s. the files I'm missing are:
65_428b MISSING mp3 file
65_462b MISSING mp3 file
65_474b MISSING mp3 file
65_478b MISSING mp3 file
66_190b FAIL (Length of Audio Error) ID3v1 Fails ID3v2 Fails

Hi Ronnie,

The 1965/66 Extras have never been posted as neither year is complete (yet) !
1965 only needs one more B-Side though, so if it isn't found soon will post with that one marked Missing. In the meantime I'll get those 5 done now. The Checksums will often (always) include files that may not be posted but a REQ will always work.

Hi Kirk,

Thanks, I really appreciate your help. Now I'm completely up-to-date for 1952-1975!

Regards,
Ronnie
